First Away Trip Of 2018 For The Gingerbreads

By Callum Boyle

After winning their first game of 2018 on New Year's Day, Grantham play their first away game of the year on Saturday when they face Halesowen Town.

Following on from postponements against Shaw Lane and Whitby Town, the Gingerbreads started off 2018 brightly with a 2-1 win at home to Derbyshire outfit Matlock Town, seeing Town climb to 3rd in the table, one point off 2nd placed Workington, who Grantham also have two games in hand on.

Grantham will also be looking to build on another unbeaten run after Monday's result, with the side currently boasting two wins in their past five games, with the last defeat being a 1-0 home defeat to Buxton.

Home side Halesowen have had a difficult season so far however they were able to secure a 1-0 win away from home at Sutton Coldfield on New Year's Day - their first win since the 2nd December. The Yeltz have also won two of their past five games, leaving them in 22nd place and seven points clear of bottom of the league, Sutton Coldfield.

Grantham manager Adam Stevens says his side need to continue with the same desire his side have shown this season: "The boys have played really well so far this season and it is important that we keep the same momentum going throughout the season if we want to get promoted. There are plenty of games left to play and plenty of points to be won so we need to carry on doing that on Saturday, by getting three points against a good Halesowen team."

The sides have met twice already this season, once in the league and the other in the FA Trophy. Halesowen emerged victors in the league, winning 2-1, however Grantham avenged the defeat by winning 1-0 in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round.

Stefan Galinski could return to the side on Saturday after he pulled out of the squad due to illness on Monday. Sam Osborne could potentially make his full debut after impressing when coming off the bench against Matlock. The only definite absentee is Luke Shaw who is still recovering from a long term injury.
