Gingerbreads Aiming to Keep Promotion Chase Alive

By Callum Boyle

Grantham will be hoping to cut Altrincham's lead at the top to five points when they host Farsley Celtic this weekend.

Last week provided Grantham with both their first away game and first away win of 2018, securing a 3-1 win against third from bottom, Halesowen Town. The win was the Gingerbread's sixth consecutive away win, keeping them in 2nd place and 8 points off league leaders Altrincham.

Saturday sees Grantham host a Farsley Celtic side who have surprised most this season, and are looking at also challenging for a play-off place and currently sit in 8th position.

After losing top goal scorer James Walshaw to Scarborough, Farsley have somewhat struggled to get goals, this being shown on Saturday after losing 1-0 at home to table toppers Altrincham. The side from Leeds also boast a record of two losses in their past five games.

The Gingerbreads will also want to avenge what was their biggest defeat of the season - losing fairly in a 3-0 loss at Throstle Nest.

Grantham manager Adam Stevens received praise from both Radio Lincolnshire and the Non League Paper however he is keeping his side's feet firmly on the ground: "We all appreciate the compliments but there is still a long way to go. We have got ourselves into a position where we are contenders for promotion but the hard work bit starts by staying there."

Stevens was also quick to praise for the fans for their support this season: "We have seen an increase in home gates this season and that is real progress. A big gate and good vocal support is a spur to our players and can unsettle the opposition. From me, the rest of the staff and all the players, we can't thank you enough."

The only confirmed absences for Saturday are Tom Batchelor (suspended) and Luke Shaw (long term injury). The rest of the squad is available to play.

Prior to the match the Grantham Town Supporters Club are holding their monthly meeting in The Gingerbread at 12:30pm. Members and Non-Members are welcome.

For those supporters unable to make the match, there will be updates across our social media accounts.
