Saturday Trip to Stourbridge

By Callum Boyle

It's back to league action on Saturday when Grantham make the trip to Birmingham to face fellow play-off rivals Stourbridge.

A rotated squad for the Integro League Cup managed to secure a 3-2 win at home to Lincoln United on Tuesday, ensuring safe passage to the second round. Meanwhile the most recent league game saw Grantham manage a 0-0 draw at home to Stalybridge Celtic, leaving the Gingerbreads 7th in the league and with three wins in their last five games in all competitions.

Unlike the Gingerbreads, the home side Stourbridge did not play on Tuesday night, with their game against Alvechurch being cancelled due to floodlight failure. The last time the Glassboys played was on 14th October where they suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at home to National League side Macclesfield Town in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round.

Currently, Stourbridge sit two places above Grantham in the league, occupying the final play-off place in 5th place and one point above the Gingerbreads. Stourbridge have also got three games in hand on Grantham and have won three of their last five games in all competitions.

Grantham manager Adam Stevens has said this game will be one of the more difficult games of the season for his side: "Of course every game in this league is difficult but this one is one that provides us with a chance to really mark our authority." Stevens also commented on how important the fans will be on Saturday: "I know the fans seem to get excited for this one and just like always, their fantastic support will be a big help to us. Hopefully we can give them what they want and get the three points."

Luke Shaw is ruled out of contention having picked up a knee injury in the draw against Stourbridge on Saturday. The rest of the squad remains available for selection.
