Second half full of goals give Hadley Wood comprehensive victory

Five goals in the second half for Hadley Wood & Wingate gave them victory over strugglers Hinton on Saturday and another victory in the Herts Senior Premier League.

The first half was uneventful for the majority with Hadley Wood & Wingate having more possession and the better chances. The best chance of the half came from Paris Mason after 9 minutes. It began with a good run in the middle of the pitch by Joe Killingback and Killingback found a superb through ball to Mason who beat the offside trap and with the goal at his mercy could only find the post with his shot.

The second half was an altogether different affair. Straight from kick off Hadley Wood showed their intent with Gavin Suddell trying to get onto a through ball but beaten to the ball by the keeper. On 54 minutes the first goal came when a strong header by Ben Andreos, playing centre back for the second game running, fell to Mason on the right hand side. He beat the full back and put a cross into the far post where Suddell was challenging the defender, however it was the defender who got the touch into the net.

Four minutes later a header from Coskun Grantham rattled the top of the cross bar. Hadley Wood constantly attacked and on 65 minutes it was 2-0. Cameron Lyttle won a header and got the ball to Hector Mackie who, in a copy of Mason earlier, beat his full back, got to the by-line and crossed for Mason to tap in.

There were several chances for Hadley Wood to make it 3-0 in the next eight minutes with both Mason and Grantham beating the high line of Hinton but the keeper made saves to keep the score at 2-0. Hadley Wood were made to pay for the misses on 73 minutes when Hinton pulled a goal back with a looping header over Ross Weinrabe for 2-1. The Hinton players and coaching were ecstatic with pulling a goal back and their mentality would have surely been to look for the equaliser. But straight from the kick off the ball was given to Suddell on the left and his cross found Mackie at the far post to make it 3-1. Hinton's first touch after scoring their goal was to kick off again after conceding.

Just before the 80th minute it was 4-1 to Hadley Wood after Grantham found Lyttle on the right hand side. It was another far post cross, the Hinton achilles heel for the second half, which found Suddell to head into an empty net with the keeper stranded.

The final goal for Hadley Wood came in injury time when a corner for Hadley Wood was floated in towards Andreos who headed down to Mackie for his second of the game.
