THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
The lead was doubled in the 32nd minute when the ball was slid left to Ryan Fuller, who was just onside before putting a low shot that made it past diving goalkeeper Charlie Turner and agonisingly crawled just inside the far right post for the hosts.
Haverhill though they had pulled a goal back four minutes into first half added time, Luke Haines’ 25 yard free kick dug out from the near left bottom corner by ‘keeper Kingsley Barnes but Danny Hill’s rebound header was cancelled out due to offside.
The second half saw the home side repeatedly having the ball in Thetford’s penalty area but they could not find a goal; in fact, one came Thetford’s way via a counter attack in the 68th minute, King beating left back Will Gardner and going round Turner, seeing his near left post shot deflected and then, as he slid in for the rebound with Turner, he got enough on it to send it over the line, despite the home goalkeeper attempting to smother it before it had crossed.
Haverhill will have kicked themselves for not getting a consolation goal, Barnes making several saves to keep his side in it, including to substitute Justin Leavers’ 12 yard turn and volley and, when it looked like he was beaten by a close range shot from Hill, it was blocked by a defender near the goal line.
ROVERS : Turner, Geoghegan, Gardner, Milne, Holmes, Hunt, Hill, Abbott, Jebb (Leavers), Haines (Weaver, 60), Bradley. Subs not used – Boddey, Halls, Shulver.
