Philp again came to the aid of his team to stop a deflected shot from Buster Harradine with his outstretched foot but the Godmanchester player was not to be denied and, with the half time whistle imminent, a diagonal ball found its way out to the left and Harradine, after letting the ball bounce, hit it as it came down left of goal with a sweet left volley that left Philp rooted as it found the bottom of the far side netting.
Godmanchester goalkeeper Niall Conroy kept them ahead with two saves early in the second period, a great challenge out of nowhere from home defender Jemel Fox denying Matty Allen a shot when in on goal just after the hour mark.
Allen also had a header palmed over acrobatically by Philp before shooting against the bar minutes later.
The game finished on a secondary sour note for the hosts with substitute Rafal Wozniak being sent off three minutes into added time, his first caution after 85 minutes met with another, and a red card, after a tussle between him and an opponent boiled over.
ROVERS : Philp, Carroll (Geoghegan, 60), Fox, Haines (Wozniak, 76), Farrant, Moody, Abbott, Bradley, Lovell, Mutswunguma, Davis (Burr, 60). Subs not used – Holmes, Halls.
