Brendan Foster Joins Heath Members on Compostella Way Fund Raiser

Team from Heath walking Compostella Way raising funds for Wooden Spoon and Pancreatic Cancer UK...

If you were watching the last night of the World Athletics Championships you'll have seen Brendan Foster being interviewed by Gabby Logan about his retirement. Asked what he'd be doing next, he said he'd be 'joining friends walking the Compostella Way'. His friends are led by former Heath committee member Richard Tibbott who, with four others (including Brendan Foster), is raising funds for Sussex Wooden Spoon and Pancreatic Cancer UK. As a loyal supporter of Haywards Heath Rugby Club, we hope you'll feel able to lend your support.

Richard (who also ran his son David's age group from 5 to 18), and his ex Loughborough friend John Caine are walking the full 800 kms (500 miles) of the Compostella Way across Northern Spain. September 23rd and it'll take them a month to get to Santiago de Compostella. They'll be joined for the first three days from St Jean Pied de Port to Pamplona by former Heath Chairman and Sussex Spoon Committee member Alan Jenkins and his wife Elaine. Their walk is shorter, but it's across the Pyrenees and pretty arduous - and all of us are in our late 60s/early 70s! Brendan Foster and Mike Candlish - friends, running partners and colleagues of John's - will be joining in the middle stages.

As Richard says:

'The walk's a challenge in itself, but the other challenge is our fund-raising target. Three years ago, pancreatic cancer took my wife, Catherine, and Alan's brother, Lynn. The two of us and Elaine are also all involved in Wooden Spoon Sussex in raising funds to support projects mainly in schools working with children with physical and learning disabilities. The funds we raise will go to continuing the work of Pancreatic Cancer UK and of Wooden Spoon Sussex. You'll find more information on The Walk by clicking on the link below where, of course, you'll also be able to donate. We hope you can and will - and that you'll also be happy to forward to friends, family and to club members. '
