A "Thank you" from (and to) Ben Creasey

By Ged Murphy

The best journeys end up back at home!

As many of you will have heard Ben is leaving us to join our National 1 neighbours Bishops Stortford.

Ben has contacted me and asked me to pass on the following message to all club members.

"I joined Hertford Rugby Club in 2001 and from my first days I had an ambition to play for the senior 1st XV which I have been lucky enough to fulfil. I would like to thank my teammates, coaches and all the club members that have helped me and advised me on the way. It was a difficult decision to make to leave my home club but I think this is the right time to push myself further to see if I can improve at a higher level. I don't believe this is the end of my Hertford journey and hope one day to pull on the blue shirt again. I wish the boys all the luck for this season, and will end by thanking those that have sent kind messages of encouragement and support.

Thank You,

Ben Creasey "

I have had the pleasure of knowing Ben since those early days and I don't think he will be too upset if I say he was not one of the lads through his age group who we had pencilled
in as a 1st team potential. What he had though was an enthusiasm and work ethic and willingness to learn that was obvious for all to see.
He has gone on to deservedly become a regular 1st XV back, equally at home nearest the scrum or furthest away from it and has also featured heavily with Hertfordshire for the past couple of seasons.

As well as his playing abilities Ben, even at a young age, has already given back to the club and the game, more than many twice or three times his age. He has regularly given freely of his time to coach many of our youngsters over a number of years and also coaches the senior Hertfordshire Womens XV.
He is an inspirational role model and has been an enthusiastic mentor to many who will be the future of HRFC.

I, as i'm sure we all do, let Ben go with our very best wishes, hope he achieves all he wants too and with the full expectation that we will see him again at some point, in the slightly nicer shade of blue!

Even if it's as skipper of the Termites in a few years. ;-)

Good luck and thank you Ben.
