A 10 try thriller between the two sides saw both teams score 5 tries. Hertford's were all through the backs with Will Howell (2), Harry Palmer, Lewis Broom and Adam Drew crossing the whitewash.
Finley Morgan's boot that made the difference with 2 conversions and a penalty to OV's 1 conversion.
The game began frantically, OVs in possession and playing open running rugby, deploying the kick-chase to their quick wins. Hertford struggled to get into the game and even in possession OVs were quick in defence, spending the day on the margins, and applied pressure to force errors. 20 mins in and Hertford had failed to assert themselves and were three unconverted tries down at 0-15.
The fightback began with two well worked tries before half-time one of which was converted to go into the break at a more respectable 12-15. An unconverted score after half time gave Hertford a slim (and brief) lead at 17-15 before OVs attacked from the kick off to score under the posts 17-22. Hertford developed a good attacking position in OV's 22 only for an unforced error and a fly hack down field from OVs to score in the corner. 17-27 with 17min to go . The wheels were wobbling and threatening to come off but to their credit Hertford dug in and developed their attacking options and the new style of play paid dividends twice with Hertford splitting the defence twice to create two good tries that Fin converted, the second conversion was particularly pleasing as Fin cursed as he kicked it thinking it was missing as the wind dragged the ball through the inside of the posts. At 31-27 OVs were caught offside at the ruck in front of the posts and Fin closed the game out with a cooly taken penalty 34-27.
The game was played with excellent spirit and OVs of HML Div 5 could reasonably go home feeling like they'd let a game get away against a side place 3 Divisions above them in the league structure.
