Winchester lose 54 goal striker to Salisbury CIty.

Blue Square Bet South club Salisbury City have confirmed that they have signed prolific goal-scorer Jamie White from Winchester City.

Last season saw White (pictured) fire home an astonishing number of goals for Winchester City, where he just missed out on beating the 55-goal league record – by a single goal.

The exciting 22-year-old striker started his career at his hometown club Southampton, progressing from the Saints Academy, and won the 2006/7 Academy Player of the Year Award having been top scorer at U18 level.

He was watched by Southampton scouts at the Academy from eight years of age, and after a brief spell at Chelsea he began to appear regularly for Saints’ youth setup.

He made his first team debut against Derby County in August 2008, before a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town. He spent some time at Whites’ local rivals Eastleigh, before moving to Winchester where he has been ruthless in front of goal.

Manager Darrell Clarke confirmed: “Jamie has naturally been the target of many clubs, and I am absolutely delighted that we have beaten off the competition and he has committed to us. We are delighted to have him on board.

"This close season has been a difficult one in relation to signings but I am aware that we need to strengthen further. We continue to try and do this."

The club's board reiterated Clarke's comments in a statement, saying: “We are fully behind the efforts to strengthen the squad, and Darrell has our full support as he continues to work to bring in the players we need.”
