New Fencing and Security Scheme Complete

Illingworth are celebrating success off the field as well as on it. Having suffered extensively in the last twelve months from vandalism and anti-social behaviour when the club is not in use at a cost of thousands of pounds the club has just completed a £13,000 scheme to boost its protection with more and improved boundary fencing and an extensive CCTV system covering the grounds.

President Andrew Smith said “We are indebted and very grateful to The Community Foundation for Calderdale via their Ovenden Moor Wind Farm Fund and a Calderdale Council Ward Forum grant for their massive help in making the scheme possible. Without their help the scheme would have been beyond us. We have already noticed a huge difference in the security and behaviour around the club premises and in conjunction with the Police and other authorities we are continuing to work to improve the situation for the local community. A number of neighbours have already expressed their delight at the improvement brought about by the scheme and we are now hoping that we can further develop our facilities for the local area without being hindered and distracted by the actions of a small minority.”

Community Foundation for Calderdale, Assistant Director Emma Woods-Bolger said “The project will reduce anti-social behaviour and the associated criminal damage caused, and at the same time protect the significant work the Club does with young people in Illingworth. It will also enable volunteer time to be concentrated on their principal aims rather than being distracted with the continuous cycle of repairing damage, and fund-raising to replace damaged items.”

Community Foundation for Calderdale

The Community Foundation For Calderdale is a philanthropic advisor to individual donors and local businesses, a strategic grant making Foundation and community leader. This year they are celebrating 27 years of grant making in Calderdale. To date they have awarded over 8,500 grants totalling over £20m to local community groups, charities and individuals in crisis’s. Each year they identify priority local needs via research – Vital Signs and use philanthropy to address those needs.
