Welcomed improvement but more work it required

By

Ingletons scorecard looked much improved as Jack Chamberlain hits his maiden 1st XI 50 but Holme leave victorious

Winning the toss on the 1st home game of the season, Ingleton chose to bat on a fine looking wicket and despite the early set back of losing Kellett with the score on 8, the hosts dug in and built a score.

The experienced left hand pair of Fleming and Hughes used there learnings to wait for the bad ball before scoring, the pair rotated the strike well putting on 71 for the 2nd wicket as Hughes returned one to Bowler Ian Betley.

Youngster Jack Chamberlain entered the arena and after a couple of early set backs, settled his nerves with the help of Fleming and Mac to build himself an innings. Waiting for the short ball he rocked back and timed the pull to perfection dispatching Varden to the banking for 2 maximums.
Confidence grew before the shot of the afternoon, a sweetly struck straight drive onto the roof of the garage.

McGonnigal chipped in with 15 before Dawson and Alex Melton came to support Chamberlain.

As the on looking supporters wore away the concrete in front of the Shed, Jack calmly hit a 4 and 2 2s to reach his unbeaten 50 with the last ball of the innings

The innings closed on 164, probably 50 runs short of the total needed.

Holme made steady progress into the target as Duckett and Liam Teasdale opened the innings.

The partnership was broken as Kellett held onto a catch to his left hand side to remove the latter with the score on 51.

Lee Barnes came to the crease and quickly got on with the challenge before Hughes squared him up and France held firm in the slips.

Ingleton slowly got back into the game and claimed a 3rd wicket following superb teamwork as Josh Capstick chased down the ball, flicking back straight into the hands of Hughes who returned the ball to claim a direct hit leaving the visitors 99 for 3.

Cotton and Halhead saw the visitors home in the 38th over to claim victory by 7 wickets.

Saturday sees Westgate travel to Yorkshire looking to continue their improving form despite struggling for players. Hopefully Ingleton can learn from this game and start to challenge for that 1st win of the league season.
Saturday also see the 1st XI debut of Will Scott, having scored 61 last week for the 2nd team at Windermere.
