Ipswich beat students 2-0

2nd half display is top class.

A lively away trip at Cambridge University saw Ipswich SEVEN Women's 1st Team travel back to Suffolk with 3 very well deserved points.

The away team started brightly and when Sarah Daley found the foot of the student defender in the circle, the Suffolk side awaited the whistle to award them a penalty corner. Frustratingly the whistle never came and the students were let off the hook. During the first half this became a repeated pattern for Ipswich and the home side gained in confidence as Ipswich struggled to find a rhythm. Despite the students best efforts they never tested the Ipswich GK and the best they managed was a penalty corner but Ipswich dealt with the danger well. Ipswich then won a corner of their own but took too long with the shot and the chance had gone.

Half time saw coach Mariette Rix give clear instructions to her team and Ipswich started the second half a different side. Mary Sacker robbed the Cambridge attacker of the ball then found player of the match Sarah Daley. Daley in turn found Lizzy Wheelhouse and she gave a wonderful through ball to Chloe Williams. Williams made no mistake and fired in her second goal in as many games. The goal seemed to deflate the students and Ipswich stepped up the tempo, now creating more and more chances. Wheelhouse saw her shot heading for the bottom corner but a great stick save just pushed it round the post. Then it was Williams turn again, but this time her shot when agonisingly wide. Ipswich then won another PC and from this they extended their lead. Kat Blake flicking the ball over the prone keeper after the students had cleared the ball straight to her.

The away side were now in total control and the students were lucky not to concede more. The final whistle saw Ipswich happy with another win especially after a rather frustrating game.

Next Saturday Ipswich welcome Cambridge City 2's to Tuddenham road for a 2.30pm start.
