Students beaten as Ipswich move 4 points clear

By

rearranged game seals victorious weekend.

Ipswich played their second game of the weekend on Sunday, a rearranged match from 6th January when the team will be playing in the National League Indoor, as they welcomed Cambridge University to Tuddenham Road.
Ipswich were well aware that all the hard work from the win against Wapping could be undone if they dropped their level against the students . After both sides observed a minutes silence in respect of Remembrance Sunday, Ipswich quickly started to dominate , opening the scoring in the first 5 minutes. Lizzy Wheelhouse scoring her 8th goal in 6 matches with a great drive into the circle that saw her firing the ball into the corner of the goal.
It was all Ipswich pressure and they should have extended their lead but shots flew just wide or over the goal.
Micha Knowles eventually scored a well deserved second goal, with a clever lift over the keeper. Ipswich were moving the ball well in patches but the students also had a few chances at PC’s but Player of the match Ali Barham made some smart saves to keep the ball out.
Half time saw Ipswich reminded that the match was still in the balance and the home side were determined to extend their lead. Despite a few half chances for Ipswich it was the students that had the majority of the possession but the away side seemed strangely reluctant to go forwards with the ball and Ipswich were never under too much threat.
The final whistle saw Ipswich happy with the win but well aware that the best performance of the weekend had been on Saturday.
Ipswich now sit 4 points clear at the top of the East Premier League, with a game in hand and will be training hard this week to prepare for a difficult away game on Saturday against West Herts.
