IRLAM PUT A MARKER DOWN

IRLAM's excellent run of form of late would be cemented after a 1-0 victory over title challengers Congleton Town, a single Liam Pollitt goal deciding a tight fixture that ebbed and flowed throughout the 90 minutes.
The first half saw chances shared, but on 20 minutes, what would prove to the decisive moment of the fame arrived when Irlam defender Karl Cassell sent an inch perfect pass to Marcus Perry, the Irlam winger pulling the ball out of the air before striking past the Congleton keeper before he had chance to set himself, a truly remarkable goal from the in form Irlam player to give Irlam the lead.
The second half would continue to be close, the chance of note coming to Boland, a ball pulled back into the forwards path from Buckley was smashed off the Congleton crossbar with the keeper rooted to the spot, a real chance to go 2 up.
ON the hour mark, Perry was in behind the Congleton defence twice in quick succession, the second chance saw Perry pulling the ball back into the Congleton area when a shot on goal could have possibly given the Irlam no7 his second of the game.
The last chance of the game saw Irlam full back Joel Amado raid down the left side before putting an excellent cross into the box, to no avail as the visitors cleared away the danger.
On the final whistle, Irlam celebrated a significant win as they prepare for their FA Vase fixture in the coming weeks.
