The weekend was a hard fought victory for the KXS II in an away game against Runwell Wyverns.
It was a great start for the Steelers who came with strong pressure leading to an early try from great forwards work, converted by Chris Martin. The Wyverns quickly exploited a weakness in a defensive ruck to return the score.
With strong attacking from the Steelers, particularly in the forwards, winning set pieces and producing good phases - we came back scoring one kick and two more tries in the first half.
Unfortunately, the KXS II concentration lagged, and the first 15 minutes of the second half allowed the Wyverns to score three tries.
Spurred on with renewed energy, grit and determination the team finally regained control and scored a try on a turnover ball. In a tough game a kick from the Steelers and two tries from the Wyverns saw the home team ahead by two points.
The Steelers managed to apply a prolonged pressure on the Wyverns, keeping them in their 22 for the last 10 minutes of the game. This payed off and KXS II managed to score the winning try in the last play through a forwards carry from a ruck.
