Home win versus unbeaten Shrewsbury Juniors Ladies

Leek Town Ladies Development faced an unbeaten Shrewsbury Juniors side today in 5th league game.

We quickly gained control of the match and dominated possession from the start but failed to convert the chances we were creating. Maddie scored the first goal of the game, breaking down the left and and finishing into the far corner. The second was scored by Laura, who received the ball with her back to goal, making a great turn and finishing over the keepers head. The third was from Alanya, after some great combination play in the middle, found herself 1v1 to score our third of the game. Unfortunately we were caught cold and conceded in the first few minutes in the second half with a long ball over the top. We quickly regained control of the game and pressure from Grace forced a mistake from the Shrewsbury defender and an own goal restored our 3 goal lead. Next Jenny, who after receiving the ball at centre half, ran to the edge of the Shrewsbury box and fired a shot over the keeper and into the back of the net. The final goal came from more combination play in the central areas when Emily found herself just inside the Shrewsbury box, after a great cut inside and sending the defender the wrong way, took an extra touch to go 1v1 with the keeper and played the ball down to the keepers right. Player of the match today was Jamie, a fantastic performance at centre half. A professional performance today despite the physical challenge we faced at times. Final score 6-1.
