LEEK TOWN LADIES 2-0 WYRLEY LADIES

By

Ladies make it seven league wins out of seven.

Leek had an early chance when a cross from Emily Boon found Michaela Lockett but she fired just wide. Chances came for both teams in the opening minutes with Wyrley coming the closest on 8 minutes when after a good move they hit the cross bar.

On 12 minutes Kim Sheldon ran through from midfield and played a one two with Lockett just reaching the return to stab the ball past the Wyrley keeper to open the scoring for Leek.
Leek were now having a good period of play and Boon again had a good run down the left finding Lacey-May Smith on the edge of the area who in turn got a good shot away which beat the keeper doubling Leek's lead on 25 minutes.

Katie Maya then had to leave the field with a foot problem and was replaced by Laura Baskerville who was straight into the action when Jules Kendrick played a through ball to her which she just failed to reach.

Wyrley tried to push on and it took a good save from keeper Hannah Austin and clearance by Charlotte Bromley to keep them out. Wyrley then won two corners which were headed clear by Naomi Sale-Hancock and Lacey-May Smith respectively.

Half Time Leek Town 2 - 0 Wyrley.

At the start of the 2nd half Leek seemed to sit back a little in an effort to protect their 2 goal lead and were quite effective at soaking up pressure and attacking on the break using the speed of Sheldon to break out.

Baskerville then found Lockett in space for what looked like would be a third goal for Leek but the shot was well saved by the keeper.

Wyrley then created a good chance and a low shot was well saved by keeper Austin diving low down to her left and clearance made by Emma Smith.

Left back Mollie Shaw then went on a terrific run past two or three players before finding herself in the Wyrley penalty area getting a good shot away which was well blocked by the keeper rebounding to Shaw who got a second shot away which this time deflected to Lockett which she fired just wide.

Wyrley were now having to go for it which left a few gaps for Leek to try and exploit. After the next Wyrley Attack broke down Kirsty Ryder burst through after a good pass from Alice Painter and got a powerful shot away which was again saved by the excellent Wyrley keeper.

Wyrley won a free kick out wide of the penalty area and a good delivery was just reached by Bromley with striker waiting at back post.

For the closing minutes Leek sat back and soaked up the Wyrley attacks. A couple of minutes before the end Sheldon ran through again but the keeper was off her line quick to gather the ball.

Wyrley gave Leek Town player of match to Kim Sheldon
