Leos spoil promotion part at Huddersfield YMCA with a thoroughly deserved victory

Leos magnificent end of season form continued last night, with victory over newly promoted Huddersfield YMCA by 33-17.

Leos scored 5 tries through Stuart Baker x2, Mark Winter,Will Tattershall and Neal Liu, with James Henry kicking 3 conversions.

Coaches Greenwood and Worrall were delighted with the total commitment of the side with what was undoubtedly the best away performance of the season.
Leos now move up to fifth in the league table.

The below report was taken from local huddersfield paper:

"YMCA’S celebration homecoming didn’t quite turn out as planned as they struggled to contain a lively Leos outfit and were dumped to only their second home defeat of the season.

Having sealed promotion with a good victory at Yarnbury, it was expected this match would be a free-flowing high-scoring exhibition by the Laund Hill men, but it turned out that the visitors were the ones playing a running expansive game.

Winger Stuart Baker opened the scoring for Leos on 10 minutes only for top try-scorer Adam Ryder to reply on 25 after a great piece of work from his opposite wing man Lloyd Bentley.

Leos’ centre Mark Winter then went through a gaping hole to put Leos ahead again, this time James Henry adding the conversion. It looked as though the game would be all square at half-time, when Bentley was again prominent in setting up field position, from where scrum half Simon Wilson spotted a gap and raced over for the try, which Anthony Senior converted on 38 minutes.

However, there was just time for YM’s defence to wilt once more, unable to cope with the free flowing expansive game being played by Leos allowing a superb individual try by Will Tattershall through the middle and under the posts, with James Henry converting to make it 19-12 at the break.

YMCA were clearly rattled by the Leos side who could have been 20 puts clear at the break but for some good defending by the home side.

YM’s defence stiffened up in the second half, and they began to put a clamp on Leos, spending more time inside the visitors’ 22, and eventually the pressure told as Neil Walker crossed to bring the deficit back to two points, Jon Smith having replaced Senior at stand-off.

Leos had defended with great determination with James Debenham dominating the line out and Dave Barden, James Haslam and Tim Fforde showing up well in the loose

Leos were not to be denied and after Smith missed a kickable penalty, Leos broke clear and Stuart Baker added his second try to seal victory, Henry adding the extras,

In injury time, impressive full-back Neal Liu put the icing on the cake with a long-range try for the Leeds side duly converted by James Henry.
Final score: Huddersfield YMCA 17 Leos 33.

Congratulations to Leos who showed good attacking flair and spoilt the promotion part by ultimately proving worthy winners".
