INFORMATION SHEET w/c MONDAY, 24th SEPTEMBER , 2018

Many Thanks......to all who turned up for the working session on Monday, 2nd July (a dozen wasn’t it?!). Your efforts are much appreciated.
Next, to the group who were at St Joseph’s School, Wrightington on 9th July. We fulfilled our side of the bargain (and received a donation), although the allotted time was somewhat reduced – and not through any fault of our own.
Then came the visits to 2 care homes: Springfield at Coppull and Paradise House at Moss Side, Leyland:. It was like dancing in a greenhouse at each one - but good for shedding a few pounds, no doubt. Two very appreciative audiences and we were thanked profusely; what more could we wish for?
Monday, 30th July saw us at The Saddle, Lea, Preston – a pub we haven’t danced at before – with an excellent turn-out of 3 musicians and 10 dancers. This was more in the way of a public practice because there weren’t many to watch us.! However, we ‘did our thing’, the landlord and staff made us very welcome and we received a free drink too. On Sunday, 2nd September we ‘did our thing’ for the Mayor of Preston at his Charity Afternoon at The Ancient Oak, Cottam. Again, a good turn-out of 3 + 9. Thank you, everyone and here’s the Mayor’s own message to you:
“I didn’t get a chance to catch you before you left today. I just wanted to say a massive ‘thank you’ for coming and dancing. It was fabulous and made so much difference to the day. I have had so many positive comments from people who watched your performances. It all helped us have a fantastic day and raise funds for our charity. A big ‘thank you’. Kind regards, Trevor Hart, Mayor of Preston.”
Odds & Ends
1. Good to have Steve Bonnet back with us in good health but Paul Dryden is ‘hors de combat’ whilst undergoing tests on his heart.
2. For part of our summer break the Guide Hut was being used by the organisers of a summer play scheme. At another time someone also saw fit to peel back a large ‘patch’ which had been put on the roof to cover previous damage, thus letting in the rain. Very considerate of them!
3. Eating places are bringing out their Christmas menus. Please keep your eyes open for examples and bring them in. We already have two.
4. RS has been adding a good number of photographs to the Scrapbooks, especially where they record our expedition to Balloch on the shores of Loch Lomond; Kirkby Lonsdale Victorian Fairs; Fleetwood Tram Sundays; the Sidmouth International Folklore Festival of 1993; Whitby Folk Festival and trips to Saddleworth Rushcarts. This is all thanks to a large collection of photos which belonged to Alan Whittaker. They have arrived with us in the wake of his dad Gil’s house being cleared and we have also received various pieces of kit. We sincerely thank the family for passing on all these items. The task of sorting and dating the photos has been a lengthy and arduous task. As a good number are not required for the Scrapbooks they will be offered to anyone interested in due course.
5. Do you recall going to Moss Side Primary School at Paradise Lane, to do one of our song and dance sessions and being entertained by a whole class of youngsters clog dancing? I’m given to understand that the young teacher who encouraged them in this activity has now moved on to Penwortham Girls’ H.S. It’s not known if she’s repeating the procedure there.
6. Don’t forget the 2 forthcoming bookings: Sat. 6th Oct. with Royal Preston MD and Thurs. 11th Oct. with ADA at Knowle Green. Further details at next Monday’s practice.
