LMM SECRETARY’S REPORT FOR 2018

First of all an apology for not achieving the objective I set last year. I only recalled it when I sat down last week to write this report and I thought ‘what did I say last year’. There it was at the end of my report namely ‘to dance at the two ‘Morris Dancer’ pubs in the area’. In mitigation I didn’t entirely forget but when Boundary Mill declined our offer to dance there, bearing in mind one of the above named pubs is nearby I forgot all about it.
Notwithstanding the aforementioned we have had another busy year dancing out some 21 times and declining another 18 in the past year.
Again it has been a mix of old and new which to some extent reflects the team tho’ the team is more a mix of very old and one new8. The entertainment was fine and Barry’s chocolates very welcome but two days later the home was closed to visitors due to an outbreak of flu which some of us did not escape.
Workshops at schools and cub groups featured in our programme and Geoff did sterling work at St Anne’s to enable the kids to showcase some of the Leyland dance for their open evening.
I am sure Geoff will give us a more detailed overview of 2018 and refer to some good sessions at places like Balshaws, Ancient Oak, ADA, Royal Preston, Derian House and the Parkinson’s Society.
I couldn’t finish the report for this year tho’ without mentioning the big bash of the year that was Dave’s 70th do. It was a great evening with lots of food, dancing and singing. It was good that we were able to respond to Georgina’s request for us to be part of the celebration because since he joined us Dave has been a football obsessed member of LMM. Not only that but his singing has added to our versatility and he has been instrumental both in the band and setting up our website.
To finish on the same note as I started what is my objective for 2019? It is very simple ‘to survive’.
Age is creeping up on us (over 80 for some of us) Paul’s health issue has not helped but on the plus side we had an enthusiastic new recruit in Geoffrey.
Mike Bailey Secretary
