A Big Thank You

By Mike Wilson

Well done to the guys yesterday in very difficult circumstances.

Due to numerous call offs from last week's winning 1XV there were 12 changes to the match day squad to play league winners Preston Lodge. A much stronger Lismore team had already lost 76-5 to PL earlier in the season, so it was unlikely that this game was ever going to be easy. Considering that a number of the players who put there hand up to play would never really expect to make the 1XV, many of the spectators feared the worst.

The first half was not as one sided as many would have expected, but PL steadily built up a handsome lead throughout. Fluffa did get a couple of penalties and 37-6 did not seem too bad a score. The second half was one way traffic in the most part. Although some of the Lismore players were playing out of their skins at times, PL always seemed to have the support on hand to finish off their moves. It is no real surprise that they were undefeated in the league.

The final score was 102-6 and it would be churlish to say that it did not reflect the game, but it does not show the herculean efforts of the Lismore players. Special mention goes to Craig Gilbert for filling in at fullback having played second row for the 2XV most of the season, old campaigner Chris Campbell for stepping in to prop at short notice, James Brown, Ewan Izatt and a few others who were asked to come along just in case they were needed and then found themselves starting. And special mention for Mike "Ferocious" Firoozi for showing some attacking flair and dogged defence.

Well that's the end of the season and it has been a tough one. Now to build for 2012-13. Bring it on!
