New Season Underway...

By Gwilym Lewis

Currys, Colin, Cardiff... a season beginning round up!

It may only be September but season 22 is well underway and is shaping to be another busy term of rugby.

On field the club have already played 4 games:
First Burry Port were beaten in the 1st leg of the Origin Cup, a good result to start the season: https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/llanelliwarriorsrfc/teams/3612/match-centre/0-3743920

Next up the 1st of two exhibition matches in Cardiff that will hopefully prove the catalyst to a team forming in the capital. Cardiff Police Falcons side proved too strong though and ran out 56-32 winners: https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/llanelliwarriorsrfc/teams/3612/match-centre/0-3744403

Before the return to Cardiff we welcomed Swansea Vikings who were staring their season. Another good performance without getting the win a depleted Warriors side went down
The game was a personal landmark for popular prop Colin Tacon who made his 200th appearance. Not surprisingly the news traveled far and wide on social media with 8,000 people reached on Facebook and over 150 re-tweets on Twitter.

Back to Cardiff then and a game against a WRU Select XV. With sides like Merthyr, Cardiff and Cross Keys represented the Warriors did well to score 5 tries but the result again alluded them, losing by just a point: 34 35.

Never the less, interest has been generated and Llandaff RFC hope to have a team up and running before the end of the season. Anyone interested should contact Endaf Williams (07425 163728) for more details.

The club also hosted former Scottish Rugby Union Education Officer Chris Reid, who in his role for Trust Rugby International and their work with World Rugby came along to a Warriors training session. Chris was very grateful for the opportunity and there was a lot of ideas shared.

The club are currently looking for fixtures but have lined up their 1st visit to Aberavon Green Stars for the 8th of October.

Off field the September disco went well with it's Hawaiian theme and next Monday (25th September) is the next curry night at the Sultan Indian Restaurant 7pm. Adults £12 children £6. If interested contact Vanessa Morgan, Margaret Day or this site if possible though you will be able to just come along on the night.

Looking further ahead the Warriors 2nd Annual Dinner will take place at the Selwyn Samuel in Llanelli on November 18th. Please note the date which is sure to be another great evening.

Finally on a sadder note the club was very sad to hear that Justin Hall passed away on the 30th August. Justin was not only a popular supporter of the Warriors, often watching his son Tom play, but also came on the trip to New Zealand and Samoa. Although he wasn't in the best of health he wanted to be a part of everything and made sure he wasn't left out. He made many friends there, especially "Seven" who looked after him in Samoa when he wasn't initially allowed to travel back. His last involvement with the club was a late appearance at the presentation evening, fresh off the plane and still in his pyjamas.

The funeral will be at 2pm on Friday (22nd) at Llanelli Crematorium. The family have asked for all donations in lieu of flowers to go to the Warriors for which we are very grateful.

Justin would certainly want us looking forward to the rest of the season and so onward, Ymlaen y Rhyfelwyr.
