Proud to be Spartans

““A positive atmosphere, good coaching” “great way to get fit”” Spartans Player, 2017 Club Survey

We're the Manchester Village Spartans RUFC and we’re really proud.

Proud of being one of the world’s first Rugby Union clubs ever to be established for gay men way back in 1998.

Proud that we’ve steadily managed to grow the club from a small group of pioneering mates, struggling to get a full squad of 15 out to play at the weekend, to now having over 120 members.

Proud to be Spartans

We are a family of individuals who’ve gone through life looking for something a bit ‘different’ and we exist, not only to help people play this wonderful game but, to make
them feel part of a really strong collective, looking out for each other and growing each other’s confidence and health.

Rugby's the thread that binds us all together but we’re not your typical rugby club. Some are experiencing rugby for the very first time because they were intimidated by it in school. It’s the best feeling in the world when you see new players discover that rugby is one of the best things that’s ever happened to them.

We’re made up of team-mates of all genders, sexualities, abilities, experiences, fears and ambitions.

We’re a well-known, large and proactive club who are striving to grow inclusive rugby - not only across the North West but across the globe. We get out there and make stuff happen.
We reach thousands of like-minded fans and the wider LGBT and rugby worlds - because we immerse ourselves in our local community and the wider world.

If you fancy seeing whether you'd like to be a Spartan yourself, message us today on any of our social media channels or via email at recruitment@villagespartans.co.uk and we'll be happy to chat through what you need and make your first plunge into rugby easy.
