Marine were held to a 1-1 draw by Gainsborough Trinity home on Saturday afternoon in the Northern Premier League in a hard fought affair.
The Mariners started strong in the first half but were wasteful with the opportunities they had – something they’d rue later on.
One of the best chances of the first half fell to Finlay Sinclair-Smith who was put in by a bit of neat footwork by Danny Mitchley but Marcus Dewhurst saved well.
Mitchley had a chance of his own just before half-time following a sweet cross by Craig Carney but Dewhurst done well to save the volleyed effort.
Like we have seen often since the introduction of Neil Young, Marine refused to allow the opposition play their brand of football and strongly influenced play.
On the stroke of an hour in-game the ball fell loose on the edge of the box to Joyce who lifted the ball over Dewhurst and into the top-right corner of the goal.
Gainsborough got their equaliser in the 76th minute as Simon Russell was able to find the back of the net with a rebounded effort, completely catching Martin Fearon off guard.
The game strongly featured a midfield battle in which Shane Clarke often found himself winning but Steve Irwin shone for the home team throughout the full 90 minutes.
