Under 14s edge a Clash Of The Titans Match

Tense game as both teams show why they'll be hard to beat this season

Stockport Away - always a favourite and the biggest away crowd of the season, at least 16!, came armed with their Lattes!

Mellor showed their intent early on with good movement and an early goal as George fed Jamie but, as was to become clear, this game was as much about our defence as Alex, Toby & Will stamped their authority on the game. Stockport always looked dangerous and their No 33 scored the 1st of his goals with a good solo effort. Ned could do nothing about this one but then set about saving almost everything that was hurled at him. Quarter 1 - all square a 1 - 1

2 early goals then saw us trail 3 - 1 but as we now expect from these boys they just bounce straight back, Will to Joey to Josh for No 2 quickly followed by Josh's 2nd. Ollie was showing promise in midfield and despite a lack of game time, Jake, Jack L and Sam were all getting to experience the intensity of the game when these teams come together. Ned continued to make save after save taking us to half time in a 3 - 3 stalemate.

George delivered a trademark solo goal early in the 3rd in a performance that saw him give 100% every minute of the game ( as ever). Jack Royle looked settled up front and soon took a brace of goals assisted by Jamie. Our defence were superb throughout and most goals started in our own half - Toby looked like a seasoned pro as he powered up and down the pitch.

Starting the final quarter with a 2 goal lead means nothing in games like this - we were soon pegged back as Stockport's No 33 bagged his 4th and the big pitch started to take its toll on us. The game ended as it started - 2 great teams hammering it out until the final whistle. The game could have gone either way - today it was our turn but everyone that came saw boys lacrosse as good as they'll ever see today.
