Sixth league win for u13s

Every player scored!

Mellor travelled to Oxton today for their 6th league match.

We had a team of 10 so no subs and due to our Goalie going down with tonsillitis, Niamh bravely volunteered to swap her attack duties for the role of goalie.

Oxton are a much younger team with lots of u11s playing today. Mellor’s team of 10 was made up of our most experienced players. Not surprisingly, Mellor quickly opened up the scoring straight from the off and totally dominated the first quarter with Q1 ending 12-0 to Mellor.

With the scoreline being what it was, discussions were had with the Oxton Manager around whether to end the game early and play a friendly swapping the teams around. Oxton however wanted to continue the match as a team so as to get some practice in. Mellor eased off the scoring and swapped attackers and defenders round and introduced more ‘passing not scoring’ so that Oxton’s younger team could get more ball time.

Swapping our players around meant some of our defenders were able to score during the rest of the match, some for the first time. All the players scored (minus the goalie).

With goal recording effectively suspended, Mellor’s win is recorded as 12-0. It was one-sided as the experience of our players was so much greater, however Oxton’s older players made some fantastic runs and their younger players got the chance to play some great lacrosse. Full respect to the Oxton players as despite offers at the end of each quarter to end the match early and play a friendly, they chose to continue playing as a team and displayed great sportsmanship.
