The squad was nowhere near the squad we had at Nefyn on Saturday, with no fewer that 7 changes.
From the 1st kick of the match it was a typical end of season match that didn't have much on the result of the game.
Waunfawr had one eye on their NWCFA Junior Cup Final match this coming Saturday.
Both teams played the game in 3rd gear and created half chances but nothing of great excitement. ... typical the second I decided to check my phone and I missed the opening goal.. which was scored by no other than Dave 'Back Post' Baston, I have no idea of the build up for this goal.. apologise to Mr Baston.
Some strange decisions from the referee had both teams confused and club officials on the line were at a loss. Free Kicks were given for nothing fouls and when there was a mistimed tackle from both teams nothing was given...
a few minutes from halftime a free kick was won by Waunfawr about 22-25 yards out and Tomos Owen placed the ball over the wall and as close as he could to the joint of the crossbar/post giving Lee Moore no chance.
Second half was more than less that same with the Bridge creating chances but couldnt find the back of the net. Dave Roberts and Sion Childes worked hard in Midfield to create these chances. Tom Scorer and Tom Parry marshalled the defence with great teamwork.
With about 10 minutes left the ball was rolling out for a Tigers goal kick but as the ball was slowing down Tom Parry hit the ball off the Waunfawr forward and out for a goal kick.... to everyones amazement (and I mean everyone, even the waunfawr forward was walking back to face the goal kick) the ref pointed for a corner ... both teams totally lost with this decision... from the corner the ball was headed out by Tom Scorer and low and behold everyone waiting for the corner he pointed for a goal kick ... two of the strangest decisions seen this season.
In the final few minutes a cross from Lance Williams flew across the 6 yard box but eluded the Tigers..
Full Time Score
Waunfawr 1 - 1 Menai Bridge Tigers
Menai Bridge Tigers Scorer - Dave Baston
Menai Bridge Tigers Man of the Match - Tom Parry
when we got to Coed Helen, there were a number of Ground-hoppers there and one of them asked me if they could see the team sheet so he could enter it into his notepad.... to my amazement one of last games this gentleman had been to watch was WBA v Chelsea ... so his book will have the superstars of the prem on one page and the other page the Super Stars of CPD Waunfawr and Menai Bridge Tigers.
