We made the short journey over the Menai Bridge to Nant-Porth this afternoon to play out last away game of the season at Beaumaris Town.
As local derbies go this was nothing different, we knew that Beaumaris would be up for it and the game started at a fast pace. Both sets of players wanting the bragging rights. There were a handful of players that had played for both teams.
With the lack of defender’s available we went with 3 in the back Owain Roberts, Tom Scorer and Dale Owens in front of Arwel Owen . Tim Evans and Dion Williams giving us the options as wingbacks and that what they did at every opportunity.
From the off Dave Roberts and Sion Childes worked their socks off in midfield to release Callum Davidson. Some half chances were created but the final ball was missing.
In the 40th minutes a long ball into the box which Lance controlled but as he turned the centre half he was pulled back and Iwan Ellis had no option but to point to the spot. Callum Davidson picked up the ball and pulled his pen to the keepers right and keeper saved it.
Half time Beaumaris 0 – 0 Menai Bridge Tigers
Half time team talk was based on the fact that we were controlling the game, but needed a goal.
Within 16 seconds of the second half starting a miss placed pass from the Beaumaris defender and the ball was with Lance Williams.. With a quick step over and a crisp shot the ball was in the back of the net.
55 mins – some great work between Dave Roberts and Sion Childes saw Sion had a shot from 20 yards that had the keeper beaten all ends only to see the back smash against the post.
56 mins – Dion Williams replaced by Tom Parry
On 62 mins a run from the back from Owain Roberts and his pass found Callum Davidson who laid a pass on a plate for Tom Parry and from the edge of the box put the ball into the top corner of the net. Here is where the floodgates opened.
65 mins a good break from the back saw the ball land at Lance’s feet and a defence splitting pass put Tom Parry through on goal and without breaking stride Tom slotted the ball into the back of the net.
67 mins Lance Williams replaced by Andy Wannop.
68 mins – Callum Davidson who had run at the Beaumaris defence at every opportunity, got the ball and took on the defence and from the edge of the box smashed the ball into the back of the net.
70 mins – now this was a goal and a half. Tim Evans worked had on the wing and slotted the ball to Dave Baston and Dave had a quick look up to see where keeper was and from of all of 25 yards lobbed the ball over the keepers head and the ball landed in the back of the net.
Beaumaris then scored two quick goals on 72mins Danny Camilleri and 75 mins Dean Redmond.
84 mins – a quality through ball from Dave Baston put Andy Wannop through on goal and he made no mistake and scored our 6th goal of the second half.
87 mins – a clearance from Tom Scorer was picked up by Callum Byng and he slotted the ball to Dave Baston and Dave scored.
89 mins a long ball over the top by Beaumaris that landed at the feet of Dean Redmond, with our liner flagging for offside the ref said play on and Dean Redmond made no mistake. While Curles was walking back to the halfway line was asked if he was offside and his words were at least 4 if not 5 yards.
At the final whistle – I approached Iwan Ellis and asked why he let the last goal stand when the players himself said he was offside… his words were ‘doesn’t matter no’. How can you justify words like this from a referee when he gets paid to do the game…
What a game no goals 1st half and 10 in the second half .... a game of two halves
