FOUR senior teams - all successful!

By arnie yule

MWFC buck the trend by fielding FOUR senior sides on the one day.

The club successfully fielded FOUR teams on Saturday, all of them with subs!! In addition, our colts were on tour to Wales.

All clubs in Scotland are suffering from a reducing number of players, resulting in not being able to field as many teams as in the past. However, Murrayfield Wanderers have been bucking the trend this season. And this showed itself on Saturday 23 March, when we fielded FOUR sides.

- 1st XV beat Lasswade (15-27), away. This was our last league game of teh season, and cemented us into the top half of the League.
- 2nds drew with Kelso (36-36), at home. This was a top of the league clash, with Kelso previously being undefeated. This was a very exciting game: end to end, played in great spirit.
- 3rds and 4ths played a round robin threesome with the Thebans, at Murrayfield. (The two sides were evenly selected, with the 4ths actually playing under the banner of the club's "mature" side: the Pirates). Not only did this show the volume of numbers at the club , since we had subs for each team, it also showed the true spirit of rugby since Thebans turned up short of numbers. (A car from the west couldn't get through the snow). So the "resting" MW team lent players to Thebans. The results are immaterial, but it seemed that summer and sun had appeared (whereas it was bitterly cold). Actually the home sides won all their games, except when the Pirates beat the 3rds in the final. More importantly, the games were full of humour and fun; a great spirit from all players, and spectators.

So well done to all concerned! Being able to field four senior sides was a great advertisement for the club. The recipe of good coaching and encouragement to all players irrespective of the team involved just makes it fun! Keep it coming!
