A bad day in Halifax

Kings X v NEAB

King Cross Sports and Social club was the alternative venue after Sport England decided that the usual home sides pitch was unplayable. Although venue wasn’t the issue for the travelling side as the game kicked off Kings Cross started brightly however, the All Blacks countered well, and scored first through centre Jack Law after a Liam Gargan kick from inside the All Blacks half was chased down by winger Sam Cooper, the Kings Cross fullback having to commit to him, left Jack Law with a pick up and put down on the left hand side.

Tom Holmes unsuccessful with the boot 0-4.

Kings Cross quickly got level and edged in front with a successful conversion. 6-4 with 7 mins gone.

Kings Cross were next to score 2 mins later and kick the successful goal 12-4.

The All Blacks looked to have woken up when again Jack Law went in for his second score to take him to 3 tries from 2 games. Tom Holmes kicked the following conversion and what would result to be New Earswick’s last points of the afternoon 12-10.

New Earswick were dealt a huge blow on 20mins when full back Tom Hields had to be helped from the field after a nasty ankle injury.
Kings Cross would then get over the line 3 times in 15mins on the approach to half time leaving the All Blacks shell shocked and at a 26-10 score line. Strong words at half time from Jack Stearman brought the journeymen back round to reality and came out strong in the second half.

Good defence from both sides kept each other at bay with New Earswick coming close on numerous occasions only to be thwarted by the last pass not finding its target.

70 mins was the next score for Kings Cross making the score 32-10.

Kings Cross would then score a full length try on full time as the All Blacks were camped in their half, a spilled ball gave the Kings Cross winger open field to finish what would be a disappointing away day for the Blacks. Final score 38-10.

Jack Stearman although disappointed not to get the 2 points did have a lot of positives to draw from the game.
“We had people in places they don’t normally play and have had to fill in due to unavailability; Jack Carling played 80mins at prop today, a huge effort to name but one. It is again the 20mins in the first half that seems to be beating us. We don’t concede the 18 points in 15mins and its anyone’s coming out for the second half. The run of the green wasn’t with us today, too much ball went to ground today and they capitalised but that’s sport. Congratulations to Kings Cross they have improved no end since last year and we look forward to welcoming them at White Rose Avenue in a fortnight to put today right”.
Man of the match went to Liam Gargan, supported by Jack Stearman and Sean Malarkey.
