Tough times at White Rose Avenue.

By

NEAB v Queensbury

New Earswick All Blacks were on the end of another defeat at White Rose Avenue on Saturday when Queensbury came to visit. Bad luck would be the order of the day when after finalising and submitting the team sheet, Adam Kirby was stricken with a knee problem picked up last week.

The score line wouldn’t reflect the game at 6-16 the finish however NEAB were never not in the game.

The deadlock was broken after 5 mins when Queensbury scored on the far right side. With the kick missing 0-4. They would double that lead shortly after when again a break on the NEABs had them score to the right of the posts, this time conversion successful 0-10. The All Blacks would then lose Luke Morton to a dislocated shoulder leaving the bench depleted.

That’s the way it would stay until the second half when on 55mins Jack Stearman took 3 Queensbury defenders over their line with him to touch down to the right of the posts. Tom Holmes on target 6-10. NEAB then turned up the pressure, mal discipline from the ‘bury side left them exposed, Liam Gargan with numerous testing kicks on the left hand side. However, conditions would allow none could be taken cleanly. After consistent pressure and numerous sets frustration began to show. A brawl breaking out in the Queensbury half resulting in a ‘Bury forward and Bobby Smith being sent for 10mins a piece.

Queensbury would have the last say on the stroke of full time, when the All Blacks tired defence finally broke after 60mins of standing fast. The conversion kick making the full time score 6-16.
Jack Stearman had this to say;
“Today it just wasn’t our day. These conditions really hamper our style of play as we can’t get a roll on and use our good speed and hands. I was pleased with the performance and the way in which the lads responded to comments made and reacted to conditions. They followed the game plan but sometimes you need someone looking down on you”.
