A goal early in each half for Bury striker Darren Mills won a close and hard fought game for the visitors, Liam Jackson reduced the arrears but the Planters couldn't get the equaliser they deserved.
There were just six minutes on the clock when Mills latched onto a long ball forward and prodded a shot goalward, Andy Wilton managed to get something on the ball but couldn't prevent it nestling inside the poat to give Bury an early lead.
The Planters then had the majority of possession throughout the first half but came up against a resolute visiting defence, Cassimiro Datocampol saw his shot from 20 yards fielded by keeper Luis Tibbles and Tim Henery saw his free kick from the edge of the area skim Tibbles' crossbar.
Any thoughts that the hosts could turn the game around after the break were given a massive blow within a minute of he restart when a good cross came in from the right and Mills hit it home at the near post.
The Planters continued to press although clear cut chances were still few, Nathan Stewart curling a shot wide, but Jackson struck in the 65th minute. Good work from Stewart down the right got the ball to the striker who got the final touch at the near post to give the Planters hope.
With the Planters pushing for an equaliser the visitors had the chance to counter and Mills set up Luke Read who shot wide, the moments later Mills lobbed Wilton and the bar.
The Planters were still pushing and a Stewart cross from the left was just in front of everyone and went right across the face of goal.
