Centre Tay Brown led the tryfest with a hat-trick and proved a first-half stormtrooper as he ravaged the courageous but outclassed Birmingham side.
This bonus-point scoring began after just two minutes when No.8 Brandon Carter powered over from a forward drive close in.
Fly-half Tom Short converted and Eds were up and away.
More tries came at regular intervals as Eds enjoyed the assistance of a biting, snow-laden wind. Full-back Sam Southall and winger Dan Elkerton both crossed the line and a conversion from Short saw them to 19-0.
Brown's romp began with powerful run, Short converted, Brown again, this time a superb solo effort, a wonderful multi-handled effort leading to a try for winger Rob Galloway, another Short conversion and by half-time Eds led 40-0.
The second session told a very different story. Yards now had the elements to hand and did well to tie the half 5-5.
Eds scored their final points with Brown's third after a magical break by Short before a spell of retaliation by Yards earned them their solitary score.
Yards have endured an awful season and were doomed to the drop months ago. But they never gave in against an Eds side with survival in their sights.
