Laycock on form at Helensburgh

By Oban CC

Oban CC travelled down to Helensburgh on Sunday for a friendly match.

Conditions were very good and after winning the toss, Oban captain Davie Hannah elected to bat. Oban lost opener Kenny MacKenzie cheaply in the third over after being bowled by O.Curtis, having made a solitary run. That brought Allan Laycock to the middle who was hoping to take advantage of the nice weather. He frustrated the Helensburgh bowling by playing a variety of shots. Laycock quickly raced past a half century and was well supported by Daniel Booker who himself made a battling 22 runs before being caught in the deep. Laycock continued his onslaught and was finally caught and bowled for magnificent 87 runs. The Oban innings was bolstered by important runs from Francis Berryman, Santos, Kaye Koyes, Richard Ashforth and Neil Belshaw. Oban completed their 40 overs having made 183 for 8.

In reply, Helensburgh lost opener M.Stocks after being bowled by Daniel Booker with the second ball of the innings. Helensburgh then raced to 64-1 as Oban spurned many opportunities with several dropped catches. Solid bowling from Oban was then rewarded as Kenny MacKenzie took two good diving catches to dispell C.Lambert and E.Bates. The Oban attack bowled well as a unit and wicket-takers included A.Laycock (2-37), D.Booker (3-25), F.Berryman (2-35), Santos (1-18) and K.Koyes (2-25). Helensburgh were all out on the last ball of their 40 overs for 168runs.

Oban CC won by 15runs.
Allan Laycock 87
Daniel Booker 3-25
