Great Tag Rugby in the sunshine!

On Sunday, the under-8s played against a Witham side on a lovely sunny morning. Playing 7 a-side due to numbers, this was the first time the team had played on a full size pitch so there was lots of grass and space to run around in.

The first game was end-to-end stuff with Witham scoring 3 quick fire tries before the OB Acorns cored 3 of their own to level the scores. OB Acorns took the lead before 2 late tries gave Witham a 5-4 victory in the first game. With plenty of time left, there was room for two more games which followed an almost identical pattern. Lots of tries, some great tagging and lots of great solo scores from both teams. Witham winning all three games with some close, entertaining rugby throughout.

Everyone played really well this week with Jake captaining the team brilliantly. We scored some really good team tries with some great support play … one stand out team try was started by Samuel with a strong run, Amber supported well to take the ball up the pitch, Teddy received the next pass to get closer to the try line before passing to Ollie to score in the corner. Great rugby!

Jude went on a number of trademark mazy runs to score some great tries. Samuel and Josh came close to scoring some solo ‘length of the pitch’ tries only for some good defence from Witham. Matty made some great runs himself with some equally good tagging. Ollie was as tenacious as ever with constant tagging and support play. Elliot and Amber had a number of strong forward runs which was great to see, especially in the 3rd game, causing lots of problems for Witham.

Special mention goes to Charlie who was playing his first game this week and showed great enthusiasm. He was keen to get involved, receive the ball and topped this off with a great try in his debut game!! Well done Charlie.

Great effort from everyone involved.

Player of the Match this week has to go to Jake. Jake led by example, both in defence and attack. The stand out moment of the game was his expert pick-up on a loose ball before running through a number of tackles to score. Great work Jake, most senior players don’t have hands that good ?
