After a glowing –and well-deserved - Twitter tribute from Staveley Miners Welfare Chairman Terry Damms {reproduced in our next article, the tale of two managers}, Parkgate FC Manager Billy Fox looks forward to locking horns with the Trojans in a crucial Toolstation NCEL Premier Division fixture at Roundwood this evening in a game the Steelmen need to win to revitalise their survival hopes –and whilst Foxy was unequivocal in his admiration for Staveley’s achievements on and off the pitch at Inkersall Road, he was unfairly harsh on the impact he’s had at Green Lane, writes Colin Muncie for the Parkgate FC Website.
Foxy told us “It’s a very difficult game for us tomorrow night and although Terry’s words are factually correct it may be a Trojan Horse to lull us all in to the mutual appreciation society so we lose all nicey nicey. I may be the most successful manager in Staveley’s history but in the here and now-which is what we are dealing with -I'm probably Parkgate’s worst. They have a fantastic setup down at Staveley and it’s all down to Terry. It was a wasteland when he took over and it’s now so much more than just a football club. It is without doubt the best community club model in the NCEL- balancing the facilities and the playing side”.
Foxy doffed his cap to current Staveley Manager Brett Marshall. “Brett won the NCEL on a very small budget” he reminded us “and I doubt with the money in the League now that will not happen again.
“We look forward to the game -but it will be a harder game than we lost on Saturday”.
Foxy added “It’s a great night for our new disabled adult team too so we hope the fans will turn out in force to make it a super occasion”.
