Match Report: East Yorkshire Carnegie 0-3 Parkgate

By

Despite several first half chances being missed, Parkgate score three to make it 8 wins on the bounce!

Parkgate came into the game clear favourites, winning the previous seven games and East Yorkshire Carnegie not winning in four, and that showed with the constant pressure in the first half, with the first clear effort coming from Brandon Bagley who chased down a loose ball which bounced over the EY Carnegie’s goalkeeper but despite it being an open-goal, the Parkgate front-man could only find the side netting. 10 minutes of pressure and shots on goal saw the home side break out on a counter attack from a Parkgate corner kick, which the East Yorkshire Carnegie attacker beat Freddie Russell and slotted the ball home last Butt, for only the linesman to flag him offside and alternatively disallow the goal.

With still 15 minutes left of the first half, a Simon Harrison corner kick from the left was swung in deep to the back post where Reece Hands got his head to the ball but he could also only find the side netting. Minutes later, the visitors had another clear opportunity and were hard done by when Matt Crookes followed his past all the way from defence to meet the cross which looked to clearly cross the line but the officials didn’t think so and the goal which should had been given was ruled out.

Parkgate could and should have been three or four up by now, Andy Dawson and his team were left to think if the ball was ever going to hit the back of the home side’s net. With 5 minutes left until the interval, Bagley ran through once again and managed to knock the ball past the goalkeeper and seemed to have an easy tap-in to an open-goal but East Yorkshire Carnegie’s number 5 managed to recover and make a perfectly timed tackle to prevent Bagley giving the visitors the lead. Parkgate went into the half-time break without scoring, despite a number of clear-cut opportunities in front of goal.

Half-Time: East Yorkshire Carnegie 0-0 Parkgate

Parkgate’s pressure continued when the started the second half much brighter than the home side again, with Simon Harrison shooting just wide from the edge of the penalty area, in the opening minutes of the second half. However Simon Harrison did get his goal minutes later when he was played through and he cut back, leaving his defender on the floor, and saw his effort go into the bottom right corner of the goal to give Parkgate a MUCH MUCH deserved lead.

The goal then seemed to give Parkgate a glimmer of luck in front of goal when five minutes after Harrison’s goal, striker Bruno Holden hit a left-footed effort through many EYC defenders and the ball rolled into the bottom corner, giving the away side a 0-2 lead with half an hour to go. On 73 minutes, Parkgate left-back Freddie Russell tackled his man on the half way line and played a superb ball into the path of inform Bruno Holden, who went one-on-one with the East Yorkshire Carnegie goalkeeper and slotted the ball past him to make it 0-3.

The home side could had pulled a goal back with five minutes to go when a corner from the right hand side was meant by a East Yorkshire Carnegie man but Chris Butt was equal to the effort, pulling off an fine save to deservedly earn his second clean sheet in two games.

The win sees the Steelmen gain their 8 consecutive win and put pressure on the sides above in the league table.
