This Saturday, Percy Main host Ashington Colliers in another Northern Alliance Premier division game which will kick off at 2pm. We had no home games since October and now following last week's game against Gateshead FC 'A' we have 2 in consecutive weeks!
We have a pretty good recent record against The Colliers (before this season) and will look to maintain the following statistic today. Taking into account the 5 previous seasons that the sides have met in both league and cup, they have produced 9 wins for Percy Main, 2 draws and a solitary win for Ashington, while the first ever meeting between the sides in September 2003, resulted in a 4-0 first round league cup won for The Main, that was when The Colliers were plying their trade in the Northern Alliance second division, their first season in the league.
I say before this season, because Ashington did beat us 3-2 at Hirst Welfare, back in August. Jake Forster and a Jonny Storey penalty netted The Main's counters, mind it's likely to be a very different Percy Main squad today as Jack Pearson, Leon Nelson, Joe Conroy and Michael Hedley, who all figured in claret and blue that day, have since left the club and we have a raft of new signings in as well of course.
Let's hope that the weather stays favourable!
