Perth and Kinross Tier 4 Conference Review:

By Rory McKay

Well done to all the players and coaches that took part this year!

Last Friday saw the concluding event on this season’s P&K Tier 4 Schools Conference.
Over the course of the Conference S1, S2 and S3/4 teams from Blairgowrie High, Breadalbane Academy, Perth Academy, Perth High, Sports Comp (Perth Grammar & St Johns RC Academy) and The Community School of Auchterarder played against each other in standalone fixtures and festivals. Games were all well contested and played in a good spirit throughout so a huge well done to all the players and coaches who participated. It was also fantastic to see so many new players getting their first experience of rugby through their schools.
The Perthshire Rugby Development Team was responsible for arranging the Conference as a whole and providing referees for all games but the teachers and coaches deserve a huge amount of credit for all the effort they put in at their schools to promote the game and for organising the individual matches between schools.
Over the course of the Conference 32 games were played and a total of 350 rugby experiences for players from the 6 school teams.
The most pleasing aspect of the Conference was the competitiveness of the fixtures with over 60% of matches being won by less than 10 points.
Congratulations must go to Perth High School who are the overall winners of this year’s Conference with Perth Academy in second and Sports Comp in third!
Winners of the S1/2 Conference were Sports Comp and the S3/4 Conference were Perth High School.
In a complicated points process points were awarded for match results as well as player numbers to reflect the development nature of the Conference.
Following the completion of the P&K Schools Conference any player who is interested in playing more rugby should contact Rory McKay on rdo@perthshire-rfc.co.uk who can provide you information on the next steps at Perthshire Rugby!
