U12 MHRML Purple Div
Risden Wood Youth Colts vs PBT Scholars
A fantastic performance from a team growing in ability and confidence week by week.
Whilst Risden matched the Scholars for large parts of the game with fluid passing and fast running forwards, the clinical nature of Potters Bar's performance produced what on paper looks like a resounding victory.
The back four cut out almost everything that came at them, but when Risden found a way through, they came up against a keeper at the top of his game who made some fine saves.
His distribution also opened up the game allowing the left and right midwingfielders to rampage and create opportunities. Up front, Ellis and Oscar are not the first players to score hat-tricks but not get the vote for man-of-the-match.
This week it was because the victory was crafted in the centre of a very large midfield, where in particular Luis ran his socks off, putting literally every part of his body on the line, to block, tackle, surge and to provide the link-up play that tore the heart out of the opposition.

U12 MHRML Purple Div Cup Quarter Final
PBT Scholars 3 Letchworth Garden City Whites 1
This was a pulsating game played at the highest intensity by both teams, with end to end action‎, and combined with wonderfully orchestrated and taken goals by the Scholars who ended up winning 3-1 to progress into the semi-final.The work rate of the Scholars‎ was phenomenal and the football being played was a joy to watch. Albeit that the quality dropped a little in the last 5 minutes as it was backs to the walls, with nerves jangling on the pitch, and nerves too on the side-lines with parents and coaches hearts racing. This was until the game was put out of sight by the powerful surging run of Ellis from far left of the half way line and ended up with him laying off to Archie who smashed home from the edge of the box. Both played so well with Ellis leading the line-up top, and Archie being a defensive hero at the back, being in the right place right time with last ditch tackles and goal line saving blocks. Archie's parents were very proud and also very happy as their Chinese would have been delayed if we'd gone into extra time! ‎Archie could not do all on his own, and was the other parts of the Scholars wall that were immense too with both Lambo and captain Nathan‎ who read the game superbly, both putting their bodies on the line, making critical tackles, timely interceptions and played the ball always intelligently out of defence. Moving on to best collective midfield performance we have seen this season through Charlie, Jack, Kyle and the dynamic duo of Alex/Luis. Charlie worked his socks off vs a determined midfield, and this was the same for the others. Jack again at the top of his game and has recently added an array of differing passes in his locker, he did not put a foot wrong, spot on decision making and from another marauding run set up the effervescent Kyle Williams who slotted home. Kyle worked tirelessly on the left and has added so much more to his game of late, and was also unlucky with a left foot rocket too that their keeper just got a hand to. Both Alex and Luis were fantastic in midfield too, stopping the opposition time after time in their tracks acting as a safety blanket to the wall of 3. The duo not alone broke up play but were‎ masterful in their distribution with magical wands as feet and used them as Picasso paint brushes at times too. They were available to the defence, to their midfielders, and the ever-running Ellis, and their efforts were rewarded with first goal of the game from Luis who hit a powerful long range shot which whistled into the top corner from 25 yards with his adoring dad on the side-line being so proud of him (and ALL the players!).Going back now to where we find the man of the match. This was lock and key behind the wall of defenders. This is the forever smiling goalkeeper "Sir Bradley" Monks. When our wall of 3 and dynamic duo/midfield was somehow breached, our gladiator Bradley came to foil the Letchworth lethal weapon and their best player. Would arguably say the quickest‎ and strongest player we have come against in all the seasons that we have been playing and possibly the best player in our league bar our ten Scholars! Our gladiator saved the 5 clear chances that their weapon had, and there was one in the first half that will be talked out for years to come - it was an unbelievable save stopping a 99% near certain goal. It must be said that it was not only the saves that made the difference but his excellent ball skills and distribution were outstanding. Bradley was indeed the man of the match but there was certainly 9 others that came close, all leaving everything they had on the pitch and covering every blade of grass – they truly worked their socks off for each other.
