Wrens facing crucial weekend showdown

Rainworth MW face a crucial visit to Gedling MW on Saturday in their first away trip under the new regime.
The Wrens currently lie fourth from bottom of the East Midlands Counties League, just one place but five points behind the club immediately above them - which just happens to be Gedling.
The Plains Road outfit opened up that five point gap on Tuesday night when a late winner gave them a 2-1 victory at West Bridgford - but had Bridgford won that match they would have gone above Rainworth in the table, so the result was a mixed blessing.
But it means nothing less than a win will be enough to put the Wrens back in touch with the pack and hopefully lift them clear of the relegation scrap currently going on between the bottom four.
Gedling have the advantage of having already won at Rainworth this season. They edged a 2-1 victory at the Tomlin Personnel Stadium a couple of months ago, albeit the side has changed out of all recognition since then, so Lewis Saxby's side will not want to concede the club's first double of the season.
They go into it on the back of their first defeat under the new boss, a 2-0 home reverse against a high-riding and free-scoring Clifton All Whites.
But Saxby says it would be wrong to consider Gedling to be an easier test. "In our position every game is a challenge," he insisted following the Clifton reverse, adding that despite the Clifton game turning on four key moments his side had, to some extent, been authors of their own downfall.
"We've got to do better than that if we are to start picking up points and climbing the table, and to do that we've got to start improving on our performance level.
"We hope for three points and we definitely need to be beating the teams that are around us in the standings."
