Hard Fought Victory

By

Dronfield Town provided stiff opposition in a closely fought game and the result was always in doubt up until the final whistle.

Rainworth took the lead in the 5th minute when Brad Wilson's cross was met at the far post by Jack Waddle for the opener.

For the next ten minutes Rainworth created a number of chances but failed to convert any.

Then on 15 minutes the game changed when a long Dronfield clearance was flicked into the path of Dan Wood who created an opening and beat Ben Townsend with an excellent strike.

This was the prelude to a period of Dronfield dominance and at the half-time whistle the honours were even.

There were a number of substitutions made during half-time and it was Rainworth who began the half on the front foot.

Lee Betts's effort on 48 minutes was cleared off the line at the expense of a corner, but Dronfield weren't as lucky two minutes later when a Sam Bebbington flick on was converted by James Munson.

Both sides had chances as the game became stretched but neither were able to add to their score as Rainworth ran out 2-1 winners.

Another 90 minutes which must have provided the managers with a lot of food for thought with the opening competitive game less than three weeks away.

Rainworth's next match is at home to NPL Evo-Stik opposition when Spalding United are the visitors.
