TTop against bottom was only going to end one way, as Ramsey eased past old friends and rivals Oxton Parkonians 72-5 at the Mooragh. The day marked the 200th league appearance for Ramsey’s John F Watling. He played in Ramsey’s league debut in 2008 and he has played in 82% of all Ramsey’s league matches.
Dan Richmond, on his first start at scrum half, opened the scoring after eleven minutes. Double centurian Watling went in seven minutes later and with a Fintan Cummins conversion Ramsey were 12-0 in front. Further tries from Mikey Craine and Eddie Lord secured the try bonus point before the half hour mark and as thirty minutes ticked over Ramsey were 24-0 ahead and looking comfortable. Before half time arrived, Craine ran in his second of the game and Dan Bonwick also got in on the action with the first of his hat trick.
Carrying a 36-0 lead into the second half, Ramsey had the game pretty much sewn up and could throw the ball around a little more confidently. Harri Radford was the first beneficiary. He was closely followed by Harry Parsons who picked up his first senior try. Connor Goodall also went in for his first senior try however it was sandwiched between two more tries from Bonwick who completed his fourth hat trick of the season. Jarred Callister’s close range effort rounded the scoring off for Ramsey and among the tries Cummins was plugging away with the boot adding three conversions. Parkonians deserved something for their efforts and picked up a consolation try midway through the half.
