August Recap

By Grace Draper

Excerpt from our September Newsletter

Hey-o Ladies and Gents!
We had another great month to close out the summer, and we thank you all for your dedication -- even with those record temperatures we saw in August. We have now raised $1,700 from our Rent a Rugger projects! Thank you to all who participated.
THE BIG NEWS: Our Women’s Team Coach, Erick Grabman, was voted D3 Coach of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Conference! Ay yi yi!
Our officers have been busy behind the scenes getting things set for the regular season. They attended the Capital Rugby Union Annual Meeting, obtained certifications (Kiera and Roger got coach-certified!), planned our home games, reserved fields, secured sponsors and equipment, planned team events, and set up our team “World Rugby Shop” for apparel. Make sure to thank your Officer Team!
In August, a few players went to the mixed-match “Boo Daddy’s” at the beginning of the month. Grace was voted MVP of the tournament for being the only lady rugger (RAPPAHANNOCK WOMEN REPRESENT)! August closed out with a friendly match between our Men’s team and West Potomac at Gravelly Point Park in Arlington.
Now September is here which means that the regular season has begun! ALL PLAYERS NEED TO BE CIPP’ed BY SEPTEMBER 1st! Practices will continue to be at 6:30pm on the River Road Pitch until September 13 when we switch over to Melcher’s Complex (same time). You cannot participate in practice until you have completed your CIPP registration. Ask an officer if you are unsure how to CIPP. Let’s Go RAPP!
