Round 3: Rebels vs Blue Game Wrap-Up

By

Where to start… what a cracker of a Round this turned out to be! Read on to find out what happened when the Rebels took on the Central Blues.

I’m not sure if many of you read the match previews but after last week’s loss to the Eagles people had pretty much tipped the Rebels to be out of it and I’ll tell you what, this week the club made them eat their words.

Getting a week off due to the long weekend allowed the Rebels to get some extra training in and prepare themselves to make up for the disappointing loss in Round 2 against the Eagles. In the lead-up to the Blues game our Big Left Footer Captain Morgs kept re-enforcing to the boys to forget about what happened in Round 2 and start fresh. He was adamant that the team would not let this happen again.

This week was saw Alex play his 50th for the club and the welcoming of a few new rookies who really made their mark in their First game with the Rebels.

From the first bounce the Rebels showed they wanted it as the first quarter saw most of the action in the forward 50. A lot of this was attributed to the great on field leadership by the Captain, many a time you could hear him yelling “Build the Wall!” commanding the boys to form up and make sure nothing leaves the zone and the boys listened only allowing 1 goal and 1 behind in the first quarter. The Rebels went 3-3 on goals giving them a score of 21 at the end of the first.

The second saw much of the same with Wade Osborne putting on a fantastic performance on the back line, he was a big contributor to the Rebels holding the Blues in place to their 1-1-7 score at the Half Mark. Bodzy was strong up forward this first half adding to the tally as well as Butts who kept feeding the forward 50 and netting one himself. There were also stellar performances this quarter from Big 50 Alex playing his heart out and Crouchy with his Mid Control. Score at the half 1-1-7 Blues to 5-7-37 Rebels.

The third saw the Blues shake things up and start to make a comeback adding 2 goals to their tally but Cam Stark wasn’t having it showing solid possessions from the ground contests and helping feed the Big Kiwi Bodzy. With the weather starting to heat up so did the players tempers as the game started to get rougher. At the end of the third 3-2-20 Blues 7-10-52 Rebels.

With already a solid lead the boys took to the field to make a statement and finish the game strong. Big Mike got his first of the season also Bodzy netted a couple more and finally seemed to find his form, the end result 5-2-32 Blues 11-12-78 Rebels.

Congratulations Boys on the Solid Win and Thankyou to Anthony Butler, Hamish Crouch, Julian Wiegelmann, Dylan Bell and Joshua McMillan who played their first game with the Club.!
