Chairman Nominated for Volunteer Award

By Redcar Rugby Club

Neil Young of Redcar Rugby Union Football Club has been nominated for the inaugural Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards.

The awards are part of the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition Programme which provides grassroots rugby clubs and the rugby community with opportunities to recognise and reward the volunteers who make up such an integral part of the game.

For the past 5 years Neil Young has put his heart and soul into turning Redcar RUFC into a family club. Returning from playing National League rugby he set about changing the mind-set of the senior players as Head Coach, once he had implemented the style of rugby and attitude towards training, playing and more importantly the social side on the seniors he took on the Chairman of Junior Rugby and in his time seen the club develop from 3 junior teams to 7, the club is now housing 9 junior teams with over 150 young people attending week on week. Over the past two seasons Neil has become Club Chairman to ensure that the club remains family focussed and his early work is implemented by like-minded people who have stepped up to share their expertise and passion to ensure every member young and old enjoys their time at RRUFC.

Neil Young is one of hundreds of specially selected volunteers who will be invited to attend a drinks reception event held at Mitsubishi Motors dealerships or rugby clubs in various locations throughout England. At each of these events, one volunteer will be announced as a Volunteer of the Year finalist – earning them a place at the inaugural Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards night at Twickenham Stadium on Friday 15 September 2017. Three overall winners will be announced on the evening and each one will receive a Mitsubishi car for a year as a thank you for their continued support of the game.

As well as the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards, the programme offers several opportunities to say thank you to the thousands of volunteers who give back to grassroots rugby, week in, week out.
