Disappointing afternoon sees Coalville claim three points

By

High flying Coalville Town found the back of the net five times to secure a big scoring victory at the Trico Stadium.

The Leicestershire outfit continued their impressive start to the season by condemning Redditch to another defeat thanks to braces apiece from Andrew Wright and Tim Berridge, while Tom McGlinchey got their first on a disappointing afternoon for the Reds.

Montel Gibson’s header in the second half had given Redditch some hope, but Coalville ran away with the game to clinch all three points.

They went ahead on 12 minutes when Tolani Omotola did well to set McGlinchey who fired in from outside the area.

The Redditch response was a good one and two good openings came their way at the midpoint of the first half.

Debutant Matt Baker forced a good save from Coalville goalkeeper Max Varnam-Smith, while good build up play involving Declan Benjamin, Gibson and Shaquille Whittingham ended with the latter firing just inches wide.

Louis Connor was a busy man in the Redditch goal and he saved well from Alex Dean minutes later, but was picking the ball out of his own net just before half time when Wright struck from the edge of the area to double Coalville’s advantage.

McGlinchey should have made it three just before the break but guided wide and Omotola should have helped to himself to a goal when the second half got underway, but it was in fact the Reds who would get the games next goal.

Whittingham’s free kick deflected off the wall into the path of Leam Howards whose lifted ball in the six-yard box was headed in superbly by Gibson at the back post.

Any Redditch hope of drawing parity was extinguished on 69 minutes when Coalville restored their two goal advantage.

Wright’s cross from the left was headed in by Berridge and they added a fourth shortly after when a well worked move saw Wright fire in from a wide angle inside the box.

They struck their fifth as the game entered its final stages. A low Dean cross saw Berridge sweep in to claim his second of the game.

And they could have had a sixth had Connor not pushed away Joe Doyle-Charles’ lively drive with fives minutes to go, on a disappointing afternoon at the Trico Stadium following last week’s FA Cup exit to Rugby.
