This was a game that appeared to be drifting towards a goalless draw until REMYCA bagged two late goals to secure the points.
Ashton Athletic had dominated the ball for long periods but lacked the finishing to convert opportunities. They also came up against Travis Wilson a young REMY goalkeeper called up from under 18 team who was in good form making two excellent saves to keep the opposition out. It was a game that was not easy on the eye with both teams working extremely hard to gain supremacy and make a break through. Then on 70 minutes an off the ball incident led to the REMYCA centre back Jack Riley and the Ashton left back being red carded and dismissed from field of play. This turned out to be a gamechanger and with both teams down to 10 REMYCA began to exploit space and with Colin Quirk spraying the ball around the pitch the balance of play changed. On 78 minutes a mix up between the Ashton keeper and his defender left Jason McShane free to score in an open goal. Having taken the lead REMYCA looked to protect the scoreline and see the game out. With David Crist marshalling the back line superbly they went one better when Colin Quirk drifted past two defenders to score on 88 minutes and seal the game. This had not been a pretty affair or great performance by REMYCA but with a clean sheet and 3 points it moves them into a comfortable mid-table position.
The next next league home game is Saturday 1st December v Squires Gate at Litherland Sports Park - Kick off 3.00pm.
