Wyllie Hat-Trick In Big Win For Rangers.

By

Rangers hit six at White Hart Lane as Wyllie shows his class.

Rangers travelled to North London on Saturday for a date at White Hart Lane, just a goal-kick away from the famous Tottenham Hotspur stadium, in a potentially tricky encounter against Brimsdown and came away with a thumping win, despite having top scorer Martin Griggs sidelined by injury. Rangers were also without midfield lynch-pin Ollie Lynch, the commanding presence of centre-half Jordan Davis and the pace of Lamar Mason-Williams. The absences hardly showed however as a rampant Rangers gave their hosts a lesson in finishing. It was a spritely start by the visitors with three good chances and a very good shout for a penalty in the opening minutes and any Rangers supporters present must have thought that it was to be one of those days. Eventually however those missed chances were forgotten when, in the 12th minute James Shrimpton slotted home after a good move down the left. 13 minutes later and Rangers made it two when Marcus Wyllie turned the ball home following good work by Kevin Mealor. Brimsdown reacted and applied pressure for the remainder of the half, but with Dave Newton and Billy Harrison in commanding form in the centre of defence and goalkeeper Norbert Staniszewski carrying on from his fine performance on Thursday, Rangers never looked like conceding. With Brimsdown committing so many forward in fact, Rangers could have scored several more on the counter attack, but in the end they were happy to settle for a two nil lead going into the break.

Brimsdown continued where they left off in the first half, pushing forward in an attempt to get back into the game. But they rarely threatened the Rangers goal and were guilty of leaving huge gaps at the back for the visitors to exploit. And exploit them they did, when six minutes in from the break, the impressive Lawrence Clark evaded two tackles before sending Wyllie through with a perfectly weighted pass. Wyllie drew the keeper before slotting the ball through his legs for his second and Rangers' third. Four minutes later and Brimsdown's collapse became total as Rangers added another three in a scintillating ten minutes. First Wyllie completed his superb hat-trick with a thunderbolt that left the opposing keeper rooted to the spot. Next, Taylor Collins scored from the penalty spot after Kevin Mealor was brought down with a clumsy tackle and finally substitute Matt Hatt arrived in the box to slot home with a cool finish to make it six! The only negative for Rangers was conceding a consolation for Brimsdown with ten minutes to go; thus preventing them from keeping three clean sheets in a row. Coming so soon after Thursday's 4-0 demolition of London Lions, this was another dominant performance by the Risborough team as they gear up for their Spartan South Midland League Challenge Trophy Cup Final this coming Saturday.

Manager Jamie Rayner will be looking for more of the same in their final league encounter this Tuesday night when they take on Rayners Lane at home, as he ponders his cup final squad!!

Rangers Man Of The Match: Marcus Wyllie. A superb hat-trick indeed for the teenager but there was so much more beside, with his skill on the ball, range of passing and hunger. The perfect performance.
